At Devbhoomi Dwarka
SAVE Pvt. Ltd. in association with AKRSP(I), initiated seaweed cultivation activities in Devbhoomi Dwarka as part of efforts to promote coastal livelihood diversification and sustainable marine-based income opportunities.
The initiative began with the installation of six cultivation rafts — four at Makanpur and two at Varwala villages. In the first cycle, 80 kg of seed material was deployed.
In the second cycle, 90 kg of seaweed was harvested from four rafts. Challenges such as turtle grazing and changes in water level were addressed by installing protective nets and relocating rafts to suitable sites. Despite strong winds affecting seven rafts on 24/03/2023, 160 kg of biomass was recovered from 105 kg seed material.
The harvested seaweed was further processed to prepare around 100 litres of liquid bio-stimulant, which was distributed to farmers through the local FPO. The initiative demonstrates SAVE’s commitment to piloting climate-resilient, marine-based livelihood options for coastal communities.
