A Community Clean Energy Initiative
Glowworm is a future clean energy initiative planned by SAVE Pvt. Ltd. to address two major issues in coastal Gujarat — rural poverty and dependence on fossil fuels. In Bharuch district, many tribal and poor families struggle due to drought, salinity, and lack of stable income. At the same time, agricultural waste like cotton stalks is often burnt, causing pollution and loss of value.
Glowworm was designed to convert this agricultural waste into biomass briquettes (“White Coal”), a clean fuel that can be used in industries instead of coal and diesel. The idea is to create local employment while reducing environmental damage. The enterprise was planned as a community-owned model where agricultural labourers would hold majority ownership and benefit directly from the profits.
Though the initiative could not be implemented at that time, Glowworm remains part of SAVE’s future planning. Our vision is to build a community-owned green enterprise that creates dignified year-round employment for rural families. We aim to reduce crop residue burning and promote clean industrial energy. The initiative seeks to strengthen local ownership and income security for marginalized households. Glowworm also represents our commitment to climate-resilient development in coastal areas. With the right partnerships and support, it can become a scalable model for inclusive and sustainable growth.
